Certainly a commercial hit at the time of its release, the film is now a classic, beloved for how lovable Fraser is as the beefy but kind hero Rick O’Connell, but also for the image of the nerdy adventurer Evy, showing generations of women that a love for books can be sexy. Though critics enjoyed the movie for being generally fun but not groundbreaking, they loved Weisz’s performance: Roger Ebert’s many favourite phrases from the film are uttered by Evy The Hollywood Reporter said Weisz is deft at keeping pace with the overwhelmingly male cast.
